    Consumer prices rise 0.10%

Consumer prices rose 0.10 percent in June from a year earlier due to higher prices for cigarettes and alcoholic spirits, official data showed yesterday. The consumer price index in June was up 0.3 percent from the previous month, the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics said. The month-on-month increase reflected the launch of higher summer electrical power rates and an increase in fresh vegetable prices, it said. The wholesale price index in June fell 1.33 percent from a year earlier and was down 0.11 percent month-on-month. DGBAS said prices are expected to show a gradual trend of turning up over the remainder of the year in line with the global economic recovery, adding the agency is still forecasting consumer prices will rise 0.64 percent this year and wholesale prices by 0.37 percent.
