Victoria Group (維多利亞集團), a Taipei-based developer devoted to building luxury homes in recent years, has invited an internationally prominent interior designer to help facilitate sales of its apartment project in the city’s Shilin District (士林).

The company sold five of the 10 upscale apartment units in Shilin last year, but none so far this year because of unfavorable policy measures on the property market.

In June last year, the central bank asked lenders — state-run and private alike — to cap loans for luxury housing at 60 percent of their value and drop the practice of allowing borrowers to pay only interest and delay principal payments for a few years.

Victoria Group is inviting London-based Kelly Hoppen, dubbed “the diva of interior design,” to put her design stamp on the company’s project, company CEO Chiu Ming-hong (邱明宏) told a media briefing.

Hoppen has designed for a number of celebrities including David and Victoria Beckham.

Chiu declined to reveal the price tag of the upscale apartments except that each unit has floor space of 215 ping (709.5 m2) and luxury homes in Taipei generally cost NT$2 million per ping.

The company also plans to roll out a new project next year in the city’s Jingmei District (景美), with more than 200 small apartments priced at between NT$750,000 (US$25,458) and NT$800,000 per ping, he said.
