LCD panel maker HannStar Display Corp (瀚宇彩晶) yesterday posted 6.6 percent monthly growth for last month’s revenue, as it benefited from an increase in demand for its handset panels.
Revenue rose to NT$2.8 billion (US$95 million) last month, compared with NT$2.72 billion in August, according to a company statement. In comparison with last year, the figure represented a 1.6 percent reduction in revenue.
The monthly growth went against the downtrend experienced by the nation’s two largest LCD panelmakers, Innolux Corp (群創光電) and AU Optronics Corp (友達光電). Innolux and AUO focus on TV panel production.
HannStar’s shipments of small and medium-sized LCD panels, which are mostly for handsets, soared 15.5 percent to 35.84 million units last month from 31.03 million units the previous month.
Shipments of personal computer monitor panels also rose 3.2 percent to 79,000 units last month from August’s 77,000 units.
In the third quarter, the firm’s revenue fell 8.29 percent to NT$8.41 billion from NT$9.17 billion in the second quarter.
Shipments of small and medium-sized flat panels grew 12 percent to 94.76 million units last quarter, from 85 million units in the previous quarter.
HannStar shares rose 0.43 percent to NT$11.65 yesterday, while those of Innolux and AUO fell 3.28 percent and 0.99 percent to NT$11.8 and NT$10.05 respectively.
The TAIEX inched up 0.06 percent.
