HTC to release One Max
HTC Corp (宏達電) said yesterday that it will launch a new product in China next week that analysts said could be the company’s first phablet, the HTC One Max. The company will launch its new phone in China on Tuesday and in Hong Kong on Wednesday, but will not launch it in Taiwan until Oct. 18, with an event in Greater Kaohsiung. HTC said Taiwanese rock band Mayday (五月天) will attend the Kaohsiung launch. The HTC One Max received regulatory approval on Sept. 30 from the National Communications Commission. The HTC One Max reportedly has a 5.9-inch full-HD 1080p display, a 2.3 gigahertz quad-core processor, 2 gigabytes of internal memory, a 3,300 milliampere-hour battery and a fingerprint scanner.
Consumer confidence low
The Greater China region’s consumer confidence in Taiwan remained negative during the third quarter, a survey published in Beijing showed yesterday. Taiwan scored 77.4 out of 200 in terms of consumer confidence, while the score for China was 91.5, Macau 86.2 and Hong Kong 82.3, according to the quarterly survey published by five universities in the region. Taiwan’s score increased by 1.4 points from the second quarter, but remained the lowest so far this year in the Greater China region. A score of over 100 indicates positive consumer confidence while under 100 reflects negative levels, according to the universities.
