Giga Solar revenue up 127%

Giga Solar Materials Corp (碩禾), a provider of conductive materials for solar cells, yesterday said its revenue rose 127.37 percent last month from a year earlier, hitting a record NT$407 million (US$13.8 million). Last month’s figure was 11 percent higher than the previous month’s, the company said in a filing to the Taiwan Stock Exchange. Aluminum paste revenue accounts for about 40 percent of the company’s revenue this year, while front silver paste and rear silver paste contribute about 10 percent and 50 percent respectively. Revenue from January to last month totaled NT$3.3 billion, increasing 20 percent from the same period last year, the filing showed.

Xiaomi overtakes HTC

Taiwan’s HTC Corp (宏達電) has fallen behind Xiaomi Technology (小米) on the list of most popular smartphone brands in China, as the Chinese company has gained a reputation of delivering high-quality products at low cost, according to a poll released yesterday. The survey, conducted by Avanti Research, found that 6.8 percent of Chinese consumers own HTC smartphones, while 7.1 percent have Xiaomi models. This means Xiaomi has edged out the Taiwanese company as the fifth-most popular smartphone among users in the China market, according to the poll. Samsung Electronics Co remained the most popular smartphone brand in China, with 21.5 percent of consumers using its smartphones, the survey showed.
