FTC fines Chunghwa, So-net
The Fair Trade Commission (FTC) yesterday fined Chunghwa Telecom Co (中華電信) and So-net Entertainment Taiwan (台灣碩網) NT$600,000 and NT$50,000 respectively, for not filing a review on running a broadband Internet service together. Chunghwa Telecom had to file a review because it accounts for more than a quarter of the market share of local broadband Internet service, and it operated jointly with So-net on a regular basis, sharing the risks of the operation with So-net, the commission said. So-net and Chunghwa Telecom had terminated the service and no customers will be affected, the commission said.
Linkou project touted
Mitsui Fudosan Co, a major real-estate developer in Japan, will construct a brand-name outlet complex in Linkou (林口) in New Taipei City (新北市), after Mitsui Fudosan managing director Takeshi Suzuki yesterday signed an investment deal with New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu (朱立倫) to implement the project under a build-operate-transfer model. Mitsui Fudosan’s first project in Taiwan has an initial investment of NT$5.45 billion (US$182 million). It will be constructed on a 6.74 hectare plot close to the Airport Access MRT System and the Linkou Interchange of Freeway No. 1. The project is scheduled to be completed in 2017 and is expected to create 2,000 new jobs, the city government said.
