The Myne Collection, a clothing brand founded by Taiwanese designer Cecilia Tuan (段廣琪), will be carried by US retailer Urban Outfitters in its flagship store in New York City by the end of this year, the Taiwan Textile Federation (TTF) said yesterday.
The brand drew the attention of Urban Outfitters representatives at the Blueprint Tradeshow in Singapore in May, which it attended as part a group of Taiwanese brands led by the TTF. The collection will be sold in the North American market for the first time.
The Myne Collection, established in New Zealand by Tuan, has become widely successful there since its launch in 2010.
It expanded into the Chinese market after participating in last year’s Taipei IN Style exhibition, a platform for both Taiwanese and international designers to network and showcase their designs, the TTF said.
Tuan has developed two labels under Myne — Two by Two and Blacklist — which highlight a taste for style, quality, simplicity and integrity through their design.
Myne’s philosophy coincides with that of Urban Outfitters, an international retailer catering to the Indie-Rock culture and widely popular on college campuses and among young consumers, the TTF said.
Tuan’s line was not the only one to benefit from its participation at the Singapore show.
Taiwanese brands mechant bebe, Dleet, abcense and Chun Ting Liu received orders at the show from Japanese retailer Beams and Kuwait’s Sstyle, while Taiwanese brand biLbo attracted interest from German retailer Soto, the TTF said.
The success of these brands show that young Taiwanese designers have the potential to extend their reach into overseas markets, the TTF said.
