TSMC documentary to air
Japan’s NHK network was scheduled to broadcast an animated documentary on Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC, 台積電) at midnight yesterday, with TSMC chairman Morris Chang (張忠謀) depicted by the character Shima Kosaku. OEM that Changed the World depicts Chang’s and his firm’s rise to the top of the semiconductor industry.
Reserves hit record high
Foreign exchange reserves rose to their highest level in history last month, increasing by US$1.422 billion to US$406.62 billion, the central bank said on Wednesday. The main factor behind the increase came from the depreciation of the euro and other main currencies against the US dollar, while returns from foreign exchange reserve management also helped raise increase reserves last month, the bank said in a statement. Taiwan remains the world’s fourth-largest holder of foreign exchange reserves, behind China, Japan and Russia.
Lite-On’s revenue rises
Lite-On Technology Inc (光寶科技), Taiwan’s second-largest power unit supplier, yesterday said its consolidated revenue grew 1 percent to NT$16.49 billion (US$553.64 million) last month from April. Meanwhile, power supply maker Delta Electronics Inc (台達電) reported that its consolidated revenue last month grew 3.42 percent to NT$14.88 million from April.
