Foundation to donate tablets
The Faith Hope & Love Foundation for Education, founded by smartphone maker HTC Corp (宏達電) chairwoman Cher Wang (王雪紅), is to donate more tablet computers to local schools to expand its digital learning project, a foundation executive said yesterday. The foundation has donated 15,000 7-inch HTC Flyer tablets to 17 senior-high schools since February last year, as part of efforts to improve learning efficiency through mobile technology. Chen Wen-chi (陳文琦), who is Wang’s husband and a member of the foundation’s board of directors, said the foundation plans to donate more than 15,000 HTC Flyers this year.
Notebook forecast cut
Morgan Stanley has trimmed its forecast for global notebook computer shipment growth in the current quarter after last month’s figures fell short of expectations. In a research report released on Tuesday, the company said that second-quarter notebook shipments are expected to decrease by 3 percent from the previous quarter, compared with an earlier forecast of flattish growth. The revision came after the world’s top five contract notebook makers recorded lower-than-expected shipments of 10.1 million units last month, which was 2 percent below Morgan Stanley’s estimates. Global PC shipments fell 13.9 percent in the first quarter from a year earlier, International Data Corp said last month.
