Yang Ming plans new service
Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp (陽明海運), the nation’s second-largest container shipping company in terms of fleet size, yesterday announced it would launch a jointly operated service between Russia and Finland later this month with China Ocean Shipping (Group) Co (中遠集團) and Hanjin Shipping Co of South Korea. The new service, which is set to be launched on May 19, will be operated with three 1,300 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) vessels deployed by each partner, Yang Ming said in a statement. They will provide service twice a week connecting Hamburg, Germany; St Petersburg, Russia; and Kotka, Finland, the statement said.
New NTUH center planned
The Council for Economic Planning and Development yesterday approved a two-stage investment plan totaling NT$5.5 billion (US$186.15 million) for National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUH) to build a medical center with 728 beds in the Hsinchu Biomedical Science Park. The center will be the first medical center and the third hospital in the greater Hsinchu area, the council said. The Cabinet is expected to pass the plan within two weeks, it said. In the first stage of the plan beginning next year, the government and NTUH will spend NT$3.43 billion to build a medical facility with 380 beds by 2018, the council said.
