Minister of Economic Affairs Chang Chia-juch (張家祝) is to lead a delegation to a meeting of APEC trade ministers to be held on Saturday and Sunday in Surabaya, Indonesia, the Ministry of Economic Affairs said yesterday.
Chang Chun-fu (張俊福), director-general of the ministry’s Bureau of Foreign Trade, said the delegation would put forward initiatives at the meeting, including one on facilitating small and medium-sized business start-ups.
The minister would also likely hold separate talks with several of his APEC counterparts, Chang Chun-fu said.
He said the bilateral meetings are still being scheduled, adding that meetings could be held with ministers from Japan, South Korea and China.
The theme of this year’s meeting is “Resilient Asia-Pacific: Engine of Global Growth.”
At the meeting, Indonesia is also expected to draft a statement to support trade facilitation under the WTO, before ministers from various nations gather at a key WTO conference scheduled for between Dec. 3 and Dec. 6 in Bali, Indonesia, the economics ministry said in a statement yesterday.
In addition, the meeting would also push for the expansion of the Information Technology Agreement to cope with technological developments.
The results of the discussions are to presented at the WTO meeting for review.
