Electronics component maker Lite-On Technology Corp’s (光寶科技) yesterday said that its sales last month soared 24 percent month-on-month, supported by steadily growing demand for power supply products and camera modules used in smartphones and tablets.

Consolidated revenue grew to NT$16.43 billion (US$547.73 million) from NT$13.23 billion in February, the company said in a filing to the Taiwan Stock Exchange.

It attributed the sales growth mainly to an increase in sales of power supply products, camera modules and PC peripherals.

However, last month’s sales were down 16.06 percent from the NT$19.58 billion seen a year ago.

During the January-to-March period, Lite-On’s accumulated revenue dropped 12.44 percent to NT$46.43 billion, from NT$53.02 billion during the same period last year.

Meanwhile, Epistar Corp (晶電), the nation’s biggest LED chipmaker, in a separate filing said its first-quarter sales rose 1.7 percent year-on-year to NT$4.32 billion, but fell by 2.8 percent on a quarterly basis.

“As Epistar diversifies its product portfolio, it is likely that our sales will climb higher this quarter,” Epistar vice president Rider Chang (張世賢) said yesterday.

Epistar’s equipment utilization rate was about 70 percent last quarter and is expected to rise to 90 percent this quarter, Chang said.

Thanks to more orders and better utilization rate, Epistar’s second-quarter sales may grow, he said.
