Taiwanese smartphone vendor HTC Corp (宏達電) yesterday said it had become the official global cellphone supplier partner of the Union of European Football Associations’ (UEFA) Champions League and the UEFA Europa League after signing a three-year agreement, effective next year.
“Football elicits so much passion around the world and we are excited to partner with one of the leading sporting brands in the world,” HTC chief executive officer Peter Chou (周永明) said in an e-mailed statement.
“We’ll be working closely with UEFA to offer football experiences to all fans in addition to providing a richer overall mobile experience,” he added.
As part of the partnership with the Champions League and the Europa League, HTC will also be the Official Global Smartphone Supplier Partner of the UEFA Super Cup Final next year and in 2014, and of the UEFA Women’s Champions League Final for the next three years.
HTC shares rose 4.05 percent to close at NT$282.50 in Taipei trading yesterday, with investors upbeat about the company’s sales outlook after the firm on Tuesday launched a new flagship smartphone model, the HTC Butterfly, as it gears up to regain market share lost to Apple Inc and Samsung Electronics Co.
