Local electronics conglomerate Kinpo Group (金仁寶集團) expects revenue to increase to more than US$40 billion this year, driven by growth from major subsidiaries, including laptop computer maker Compal Electronics Co (仁寶集團), group chairman Rock Hsu (許勝雄) said.
That would make Kinpo Group the third local electronics conglomerate to report revenues of more than US$40 billion, following Hon Hai Precision Industry Co (鴻海精密), which assembles iPhones and iPads for Apple Inc, and Quanta Computer Inc (廣達電腦), the world’s top contract laptop maker.
The revenue growth would be driven by expansion of shipments of its notebook computers, mobile phones and hard disk drives, Hsu said.
Compal is expected to increase its notebook computer shipments by 20 percent to 48 million units this year, he said. Compal Communications Inc (華寶通訊) is expected to more than double handset shipments to 10 million units this year, from 3.6 million units last year, Hsu added.
Hard disk drive shipments from Cal-Comp Electronics (Thailand) (泰金寶) would triple to 48 million units this year, with global market share increasing to 50 percent, Hsu said.
The group’s telecoms unit, VIBO Telecom Inc (威寶電信), yesterday said it was seeking cooperation with TV channel ERA News as it aims to boost subscribers by 15 percent to 2.1 million this year. VIBO has filed a regulatory application to deliver the service and it plans to launch its own mobile apps store next month to enhance user loyalty, VIBO president George Chou (周鐘麒) said.
