Solar water heaters reflect the sun’s rays in Athens on Wednesday. Greece has seen a rise in exports of solar water heating systems during the economic crisis, a rare success for the recession-mired Mediterranean country, whose economy is heavily dependent on imports. Exports of solar water heating boilers and collectors rose 4.7 percent and 13.4 percent respectively in 2011-2012, the Greek Solar Industry Association said. Domestic demand for solar water heating collectors also rose 5.6 percent in the same period, pushed higher by an increase in the price of electricity and heating oil, the association said. However, domestic demand for solar water heater boilers saw a decline of 2.5 percent.Apr 27, 2013
