LEG, SLIGHTLY USED
A worker makes a prosthetic leg at the Center of Advanced Prosthetics in San Jose, Costa Rica, on Monday. Dino Cozzarelli, an Ecuadoran orthotist and prosthetist living in Costa Rica, is attempting to introduce affordable prosthetic limbs for patients by purchasing prostheses used previously in the US and Europe, and modifying them to fit their new wearers. According to Cozzarelli, modifying plastic prostheses is a better option for patients than using the free wooden prostheses funded by the state’s social security system, which are heavier and of lower quality than plastic ones.Feb 13, 2013
