A Samsung Total Petrochemical plant spews smoke yesterday in Seosan, about 150km south of Seoul, South Korea. The US on Monday played down the company’s purchase of Iranian oil, saying South Korea shares the objective of keeping pressure on Tehran over its nuclear program through sanctions. Samsung Total Petrochemicals bought the condensate because thin profit margins in plastics production make inexpensive fuel from the Islamic Republic hard to resist, people familiar with the deal said last week.Jan 30, 2013
