Asustek Computer Inc (華碩電腦) and Taiwan FamilyMart Co (全家便利商店) are partnering to provide a cloud computing-based printing service as part of Asustek’s efforts to expand its cloud user base.

The service, which started on Wednesday, allows people to print documents or photographs saved in their Asustek cloud storage.

Users can log in at printers in more than 2,900 FamilyMart stores, Asustek said in a statement.

The service fits the needs of businesspeople who want to print files outside the office and people who wish to share photos any time, the company said.

The cloud computing-based printing service launch came a day after Asustek announced a 54 percent price cut in its personal cloud service, from US$49.99 to US$22.99 per year, and a doubling of its annual free storage space to 100 gigabytes.

The company said it has has 30 million cloud storage users worldwide and aims to gain 20 million more this year, as buyers of Asustek’s motherboards, notebooks, tablets and smartphones are expected to buy Asus WebStorage, as the company’s cloud space is called, as well.
