Innolux Corp (群創光電), the nation’s largest LCD panel maker, yesterday posted a 50 percent monthly increase in revenue last month to NT$37.32 billion (US$1.24 billion), with last quarter’s revenue at NT$89.56 billion, the company said in a financial statement.
Shipments of personal computer and LCD TV panels expanded to 12.5 million units last month from 8.94 million in February, while those of PC and TV panels slipped 3.8 percent to 31.47 million units from 32.73 million units the previous quarter, the statement said.
“Shipments of small and large panels have exceeded our forecast in February,” Innolux said in the statement.
The Miaoli-based panel maker earlier forecast shipments of large panels would decrease by high-single-digit to low-teen percentage points sequentially last quarter.
Small panels were expected to fall by 30 percent quarterly last quarter due to seasonal factors, the company added.
However, yesterday’s results showed that shipments of small panels dropped at a slower rate of 25.1 percent to 77.89 million units last quarter from 139 million units in the previous quarter.
Innolux is the biggest TV panel supplier to television vendors in China.
The company’s shipments of LCD TV panels to China are expected to grow to 6 million units for last month from 5.36 million units in February due to rising demand for ultra-high-definition TVs and inventory buildup before China’s Labor Day holiday next month, market researcher PND DisplaySearch forecast last month.
PND DisplaySearch also forecast that 6 million units would be shipped this month.
