HannStar reports profit drop
Local LCD panel maker HannStar Display Corp (瀚宇彩晶) yesterday said net profit plunged 93 percent sequentially to NT$148 million (US$4.9 million), or NT$0.05 per share, from NT$2.19 billion in the third quarter last year, on price fall. That brought the company’s total net profit last year to NT$6.36 billion, an improvement from a loss of NT$1.64 billion in 2012. Gross margin slumped to 14 percent last quarter, from 36 percent in the third quarter last year, according to the company’s financial statement. Average selling price dropped to US$50 per unit last quarter, compared with US$66 per unit in the previous quarter. Shipments were almost flat at 4.27 million units last quarter, compared with the previous quarter.
Tigerair advertises positions
Tigerair Taiwan (台灣虎航), a budget carrier joint venture between China Airlines Ltd (CAL, 中華航空) and Singapore’s Tiger Airways, began recruiting staff yesterday for 180 job openings ahead of its launch set for November. The 180 positions include 88 flight attendants, as well as pilots and ground staff, Tigerair Taiwan said. It said flight attendants will be offered a monthly pay of more than NT$50,000, while pilots and ground staff will receive competitive salaries. The recruitment process began yesterday and selection will be completed in June, the airline said. Interested persons can sign up on employment Web site yes123 through April 13, Tigerair Taiwan said.
