The Din Tai Fung (鼎泰豐) restaurant chain, renowned for its xiaolongbao (小籠包, steamed pork dumplings), is to launch its annual recruitment drive on Saturday with the aim of hiring up to 100 new faces.
Openings in nine job categories will be offered at the event, said Taipei’s Department of Labor, which is co-organizing the drive through its Employment Services Office.
The openings are for service attendants, international service attendants, counter attendants, chefs, dim sum trainees, cuisine delivery personnel, part-time workers, cleaners and dishwashers.
The positions are spread across Din Tai Fung’s six branches in Taipei and New Taipei City (新北市) and successful applicants will bring home monthly salaries ranging from NT$33,000 to NT$55,000 (US$1,089 to US$1,800), the department said.
Din Tai Fung’s focus this year will be on recruiting university undergraduates and high-school students for part-time positions that can turn into full-time jobs after they graduate, the office said.
Aside from the pay, another draw for jobseekers may be the generous bonuses the chain dishes out for the Lunar New Year.
Prior to this year’s Lunar New Year holiday, Din Tai Fung president Yang Chi-hua (楊紀華) said that management-level personnel could receive bonuses equivalent to up to 20 months’ salary.
Overall wages will likely be raised by 5 to 10 percent this year, in appreciation of employees’ hard work last year, he added.
Din Tai Fung came second in a list of “best franchises for travelers” published by CNN Travel last year, beating US giants McDonald’s Corp and Starbucks Corp.
