Housing loans hit high
The outstanding balances on housing and construction loans for last month rose to historical high levels, the latest statistics issued by the central bank showed yesterday. Growth in the outstanding balance of housing loans accelerated to NT$6.953 trillion (US$232 billion) at the end of last month, up 0.49 percent from a year earlier, compared with the 0.28 percent month-on-month rise a month earlier, central bank data showed. The outstanding balance of housing loans last month showed an increase of 1.77 percent from the same period last year. The outstanding balance of construction loans was NT$1.498 trillion at the end of last month, central bank statistics showed.
Mobile apps announced
Chunghwa Telecom Co (中華電信) on Thursday announced a number of cloud-based mobile business applications to cash in on the corporate demand for the soon-to-launch 4G LTE wireless network. The applications focus on reducing operational costs and improving management efficiency with features such as the ability to hold virtual meetings over mobile devices and enabling remote disabling of certain functions on employees’ phones. Chunghwa Telecom expects the applications to be adopted by more than 2,000 local companies next year and generate about NT$100 million in revenue for the company, said Lin Kuo-feng (林國豐), president of the company’s mobile business group.
