Apple tablets to go on sale
Apple Inc’s latest tablet models, the iPad Air and iPad Mini 2, will go on sale on Monday, Chunghwa Telecom Co (中華電信), the nation’s top telecommunications operator, said yesterday. Four storage sizes — 16GB, 32GB, 64GB and 128GB — of the Wi-Fi plus cellular models of the 9.7-inch iPad Air and 7.9-inch iPad Mini 2 will be sold, Chunghwa said in a statement. The company added that customers will be able to choose from a number of preferential service packages for the newest iPad models. Those who opt for Chunghwa’s 3G mobile network will enjoy a maximum 50 percent discount on monthly service charges over a two or three-year period, the company said.
Bitcoin controls pledged
The operator of the first Taiwanese online shopping service to accept bitcoins said on Thursday that it will implement strict risk-control measures for the virtual currency. Wayi International Digital Entertainment Co (華義) announced on Wednesday that it will accept bitcoins on its Wmall shopping site from Jan. 1. However, given the volatility of bitcoin’s value, the company will limit its holdings of this new type of payment instrument to control risks. The company also stated that shoppers planning to make their payments in bitcoin will have to do so through the Atlanta-based Bitpay service.
