Taiwanese textile exporters expect to secure no less than US$8 million in orders from buyers in India and Sri Lanka following a promotional tour to the two South Asian nations at the end of last month, the Taiwan Textile Federation said yesterday.
The export promotion group said the 14 Taiwanese firms that participated in the Nov. 18 to Nov. 27 tour have seen their businesses improve sales volumes through buyers in the two nations.
At conferences in New Delhi, Bangalore and Colombo, representatives of the firms spoke about their products and met with potential buyers in India, Sri Lanka and other countries, according to the federation.
The 14 firms on the tour included eco-friendly textile supplier Ourtex Industrial Co (柏樺), functional fabric maker Hitex Prosperity Co (海帝斯), woven fabric and polyester yarn producer Wisher Industrial Co (偉全) and Yu Shin Development Co (裕興), which specializes in woven labels and jacquard tapes for garment and shoes, the federation said.
Among the potential buyers were India-based garment maker Rupa & Co, underwear label Enamor, and sportswear and casual fashion provider Wild Craft.
Also at the conferences were representatives from major multinational brands such as Victoria’s Secret, Tesco, Speedo and Coach, according to the federation.
Last month’s trip was the federation’s eighth textile promotion tour to India and its second to Sri Lanka. The organization is planning another tour for mid-November next year.

Among the rows of vibrators, rubber torsos and leather harnesses at a Chinese sex toys exhibition in Shanghai this weekend, the beginnings of an artificial intelligence (AI)-driven shift in the industry quietly pulsed. China manufactures about 70 percent of the world’s sex toys, most of it the “hardware” on display at the fair — whether that be technicolor tentacled dildos or hyper-realistic personalized silicone dolls. Yet smart toys have been rising in popularity for some time. Many major European and US brands already offer tech-enhanced products that can enable long-distance love, monitor well-being and even bring people one step closer to

Malaysia’s leader yesterday announced plans to build a massive semiconductor design park, aiming to boost the Southeast Asian nation’s role in the global chip industry. Now it wants to go beyond production and emerge as a chip design powerhouse too, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said. “I am pleased to announce the largest IC (integrated circuit) Design Park in Southeast Asia, that will house world-class anchor tenants and collaborate with global companies such as Arm [Holdings PLC],”
