Hon Hai Precision Industry Co (鴻海) chairman Terry Gou (郭台銘) said on Saturday that his company is thinking about setting up a machinery manufacturing headquarters in the US state of Arizona.
In addition, Hon Hai is also mulling the feasibility of establishing production bases in eastern and western US states, Gou said.
During a reception for an Arizona trade delegation led by Arizona Governor Janice Brewer, who visited Hon Hai’s headquarters in Tucheng District (土城), New Taipei City (新北市), Gou said his company is studying the possibility of relocating more of its manufacturing assets to the US.
Hon Hai currently employs several thousand people in the US, Gou said.
He said that Apple Inc has opened a production site in Arizona to make components for its products, which he said shows that the state is an ideal destination for manufacturers.
Gou said Arizona has promised to provide foreign investors with many investment incentives that are very attractive to the high-tech industry.
He said Hon Hai is likely to create jobs in the US in positions such as mold production, electronic components and a wide range of automation equipment.
Several US high-tech giants such as Google Inc, Amazon.com and Facebook Inc have urged Hon Hai to open plants in the US, he added.
