The Ministry of Economic Affairs yesterday said the government is on the way to achieving its annual target of attracting a total of NT$1.2 trillion (US$40.4 billion) of private investment this year, after the private sector invested NT$726.8 billion in the first eight months this year.
The figure represents 60.57 percent of the government’s annual target for private investment this year. In the first eight months, investment made by China-based Taiwanese businesses amounted to NT$184.4 billion, or 25.37 percent of the total, the ministry said in a statement.
The ministry has set a target to attract NT$200 billion of investment from China-based Taiwanese businesses this year.
It said it had approved up to 35 investment applications submitted by China-based Taiwanese firms since 2011, which are estimated to create 28,000 jobs.
