The founder of the Red Dot Design Award, one of the world’s largest and most celebrated design competitions, is scheduled to open a new design museum in Taipei on Aug. 30 with the intention of providing greater visibility for award-winning designs.
THREE OF A KIND
The Red Dot Design Museum Taipei will be the third of its kind in the world, the others being in Germany and Singapore, Red Dot’s German founder and chief executive Peter Zec said at a press conference.
Choosing Taipei as the location for the third museum was a “logical step” because Taiwan and Germany began design exchanges a long time ago, Zec said.
Located at the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, the museum will be a new landmark in the capital and will help to inspire the economy and society, while building more friendly partnerships between Taiwan and Germany, Zec said.
Also at Tuesday’s press briefing, Red Dot showcased the Ducati 1199 Panigale motorcycle, which won the “best-of-the-best” award in Red Dot’s product design category last month, thanks to its balance of technology and style.
Red Dot said it plans to display five sports cars at the new museum on its opening day, giving the public an opportunity to see the latest trends in industrial design.
