Overseas investments

Chunghwa Post Co (中華郵政) chairwoman Lee Jih-chu (李紀珠) will be traveling abroad next month in search of ways to diversify the company’s overseas interests and investments. Lee will meet with her counterparts in Japan and Singapore next month to discuss potential cooperation in several areas, including investments in new services, the company said yesterday. That will follow Chunghwa Post’s recent move to apply to China for qualified foreign institutional investor status and an investment quota of US$200 million. The company currently has NT$5.8 trillion (US$193.8 billion) in funds from deposits and insurance payments, of which about NT$700 billion is invested overseas.

DRAM chip price falls

Prices of DRAM chips in the spot market have fallen more than 8 percent since the beginning of the month due to inventory adjustments, statistics showed yesterday. The relatively high inventories were built in mid and late May, when personal computer makers restocked memory chips on a large scale to drive DRAM prices more than 20 percent higher in one month, market analysts said. However with vendors cutting inventories, the price of the benchmark DDR3 2Gb DRAM in the spot market has fallen 8.37 percent since the beginning of the month to about US$1.75, according to market information advisory provider TrendForce Corp.
