The annual Bio Taiwan expo opens next week, providing a platform for local biotechnology companies to meet potential investors and development partners.
“The event provides opportunities for biotech firms to find funding, technologies and partners in Taiwan and abroad,” Taiwan Bio Industry Organization president Johnsee Lee (李鍾熙) said at a press conference yesterday.
Lee estimated that the event this year could create about 600 match-making opportunities, up from 100 last year, but did not provide estimates on potential sales.
About 520 companies from the US, Germany, Switzerland, Canada, Australia, Japan and South Korea will set up 1,050 booths at the annual fair, the association said.
The Japan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association and Japan Biotech Association will take part in the event for the first time this year, it said.
“That more well-known drug companies and associations are willing to participate in the event is a testament to the development of the local biotech industry,” association secretary-general Huang Bor-fuei (黃博輝) said by telephone.
The exhibition, match-making activities and conferences will take place at the Taipei World Trade Center Nangang Exhibition Hall from Thursday to Sunday next week.
