Eclat increases yoga wear sales, revenue

By Camaron Kao  /  Staff reporter

Local apparel maker Eclat Textile Co (儒鴻) reported a 93.16 percent increase in revenue last month from a year ago after its transactions with Vancouver-based yoga wear maker Lululemon Athletica Inc returned to normal.

Eclat’s revenue reached NT$1.58 billion (US$53.16 million) last month, which represents an increase of 77.29 percent from April, the company said in a filing to the Taiwan Stock Exchange.

In March, Lululemon pulled Eclat’s women’s yoga pants off the shelves after complaints that the pants were virtually see-through when the wearer bent over.

At the time, Lululemon said the fabric for making the pants was from its suppliers in Taiwan and Thailand.

“Lululemon has started to replenish its inventory after the issue was settled,” company vice president Roger Lo (羅仁傑) said by telephone.

Sales to Lululemon accounted for 10 percent of Eclat’s revenue last year, the company said.

Lo said the outlook for this quarter is promising.

“New brands are interested in our products and want to cooperate with us,” he said.

From January through last month, Eclat’s accumulated revenue totaled NT$6.14 billion, up 34.46 percent from a year ago.

The company’s shares dropped 5.11 percent to NT$213.5 yesterday, underperforming the TAIEX, which was down 0.01 percent.
