PC shares drag TAIEX lower
The TAIEX closed down yesterday as high-tech stocks, personal computer firms in particular, faced downward pressure amid concerns over sales outlooks, dealers said. “Apple concept stocks” also trended lower, led by Hon Hai Precision Industry Co (鴻海精密), due to concerns that Apple is postponing the launch of its new iPhones and iPad, they said. The index closed down 36.35 points, or 0.46 percent, at 7,821.63 on turnover of NT$69.48 billion (US$2.32 billion).
Deal with Paraguay inked
Taiwan has signed an agreement with Paraguay to help the Latin American country expand its exports, Taipei’s embassy in Asuncion said yesterday. Under the agreement, Taiwan and Paraguay will work with each other to penetrate the global market and devise plans to solicit foreign investment, it said. The agreement follows the announcement last year that Paraguay was granting Republic of China passport holders visa-waiver treatment.
Taipower raises NT$13.1bn
State-owned Taiwan Power Co (Taipower, 台電) has raised NT$13.1 billion from a bond sale, a company statement said yesterday. Taipower said it sold NT$6 billion of five-year bonds with a coupon rate of 1.28 percent, NT$3.4 billion of seven-year bonds with a 1.39 percent rate and N$3.7 billion of 10-year bonds with a 1.53 percent rate.
