LED chipmaker Unity Opto Technology Co (東貝光電) yesterday said that strong demand for large-screen back-lit LED TVs from China boosted its first-quarter sales by a double-digit percentage year-on-year, and forecast that sales would remain robust this quarter.
Unity Opto said in a filing submitted to the Taiwan Stock Exchange that its consolidated revenue last month grew 30 percent month-on-month and 54.73 percent year-on-year to NT$650.56 million (US$21.65 million).
That boosted quarterly revenue by 63 percent year-on-year to NT$1.67 billion from NT$1.02 billion, which was better than its estimates.
The company predicted continued strong sales this quarter, as clients ramp up orders ahead of China’s May Day holiday.
