Asustek Computer Inc (華碩電腦) posted record sales last month, up 12 percent month-on-month and 33 percent year-on-year, driven by strong demand for touch-screen Windows 8-powered Vivobook notebooks and 7-inch Nexus 7 tablet computers.
Unconsolidated revenue reached NT$39.64 billion (US$1.36 billion) Asustek said in a filing to the Taiwan Stock Exchange yesterday.
From Janurary to last month, accumulated revenue totaled NT$344.6 billion, up 17.58 percent compared with NT$293.1 billion in the same period last year.
The company said sales of Vivobook notebooks reached 1.8 million units last month and those of Nexus 7 tablets hit nearly 1 million units. Shipments of notebooks, tablets, and motherboards for this quarter might meet the company’s sales guidances of 5.5 million, 2.6 million and 5.5 million units respectively.
Asustek said sales would enter an off-season this month and predicted unit shipments would decrease through February next year.
Also yesterday, Acer Inc (宏碁) reported unconsolidated revenue of NT$24.36 billion last month, down 4.58 percent from NT$25.53 billion for October and 31.88 percent lower than NT$35.76 billion a year ago. From January to November, unconsolidated revenue was NT$330.47 billion, down 11.33 percent from last year.
Meanwhile, Quanta Computer Inc (廣達) yesterday said its consolidated revenue for last month fell by 13.3 percent from a month earlier to NT$86.04 billion, 11.16 percent lower than NT$96.86 billion in October, with sales of computers and peripherals at NT$85.69 billion and sales of maintenance equipment at NT$66.6 million.
In the first 11 months, cumulative revenue was NT$897.13 billion, down 9.34 percent from NT$989.52 billion in the same period last year, the company said.
Quanta said the lower-than-expected monthly sales were in line with expectations, with shipments of notebooks reaching 4.6 million units last month, down from 4.9 million units in October. It expects notebook shipments to decrease this month amid slow demand.
Wistron Corp (緯創) reported an annual decline of 12.45 percent in consolidated revenue last month to NT$57.86 billion, although the cumulative figure grew 1.76 percent to NT$602.42 billion in the first 11 months, while Pegatron Corp (和碩) said last month’s sales grew 79.37 percent to NT$75 billion from October, cumulative revenue rising 67.37 percent to NT$562.67 billion in the first 11 months.
