Asustek Computer Inc (華碩電腦), the world’s No. 5 PC vendor and No. 1 motherboard maker, reported a month-on-month increase of more than 15 percent in consolidated sales last month on the back of rising notebook computer and tablet computer shipments.
The company announced on Friday that its consolidated sales topped NT$40 billion (US$1.34 billion) last month, up more than 15 percent from a month earlier.
Last month’s figure ranked second highest in Asustek’s history after it posted about NT$42 billion in consolidated sales in November last year.
While Asustek last month shipped the largest amount of notebook computers so far this year, its tablet computer shipments hit the highest monthly level in the company’s history at nearly 1 million units, after the company launched Nexus 7 tablets, a co-brand model with Google Inc, in late June.
Market analysts estimated Asustek’s notebook computer shipments ranged between 1.6 million and 1.9 million units last month.
On the non-consolidated basis, the PC vendor posted NT$32 billion in sales last month, up 5.95 percent from July, but down 3.79 percent from a year earlier, the company said.
In the first eight months of this year, non-consolidated sales totaled NT$235.69 billion, up 17.42 percent year-on-year.
Looking ahead, market analysts said, Asustek’s sales will continue to grow this month and next month due to strong demand for the Nexus 7 series and the launch of new models bundled with Microsoft’s Windows 8 operating system.
