Hon Hai Technology Group (鴻海科技集團) yesterday confirmed media reports that a Chinese employee died after falling from his apartment in Chengdu, Sichuan Province.
Hon Hai Technology Group, which is also known as Foxconn Technology Group (富士康科技集團), makes iPhones and iPads for Apple Inc, PCs for Dell Inc and LCD TVs for Sony Corp.
Police said a male employee had fallen from his rented apartment outside the factory and died on Wednesday, the company said, adding that police are investigating the incident.
The 23-year-old employee, surnamed Xie, joined the Chengdu factory last month, Hon Hai said in a statement.
The company said it would fully cooperate with a police investigation and assist the local government to help Xie’s family pay for the funeral.
The incident occurred after a fight among some Foxconn employees from a Chengdu factory on Monday night, Foxconn said in a separate statement. Police were called to stop the fight.
About 100 workers from a Chengdu factory went on a rampage last week after a restaurant dispute turned violent and four drunken workers were arrested.
A series of suicides among young workers have been reported at Foxconn since 2010, prompting the company to pledge improvements for its employees in China.
