Far EasTone Telecommunications Co (遠傳電信), Taiwan’s third-largest mobile provider, recorded higher growth in mobile data revenue than its bigger competitors in the first quarter of this year.
Far EasTone reported mobile service revenue of NT$14.57 billion (US$495 million) in the first three months of this year, with mobile data revenue accounting for 27.4 percent, the company said in a statement on Friday.
Its mobile data revenue totaled NT$3.99 billion in the first quarter, an increase of 48 percent from the same period last year.
Far EasTone’s 48 percent annual growth was higher than the 29.2 percent posted by -Chunghwa Telecom Co (中華電信) and the 40 percent by Taiwan Mobile Co (台灣大哥大), the country’s top two mobile providers.
Meanwhile, Far EasTone’s data service subscribers reached 1.81 million as of last month, representing an annual growth of 63 percent.
The company expects both its mobile data revenue and subscribers to continue to grow in the future thanks to the sales of smartphones.
