Industrial conglomerate Formosa Plastics Group (FPG, 台塑集團), which has been plagued by a spate of industrial safety mishaps, said it would submit an operations suspension checklist to the Economics Affairs ministry by today.
FPG spokesman Frank Fu (傅陳卿) said the group would definitely submit the checklist by the one-week deadline, which is today.
It will fully comply with the government’s demands to suspend operations at the various sites within a year to enhance overall safety at its Mailiao (麥寮) petrochemical complex in Yunlin County, he added.
Fu said the checklist would follow the Cabinet’s guidelines, but the content would not be made public.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs on Tuesday last week said it demanded FPG, which saw seven fires at its Mailiao complex within a year, to submit a checklist and a timeline for a suspension of operations.
The ministry demanded that a checklist on which sites would be suspended must be submitted within a week, followed by the submission within a month of a timeline on how the group plans to temporarily halt operations at the different sites within a year.
