Hon Hai Precision Industry Co Ltd (鴻海精密), which makes iPhones and iPads for Apple Inc, posted its strongest monthly revenues in six months with NT$228.4 billion (US$7.93 billion) for last month, on the back of rising demand for consumer electronics such as tablet devices and computers.
Revenues expanded 13.88 percent month-on-month last month, or 15.6 percent year-on-year, bucking the seasonal downtrend in the April-to-June period. Stronger demand for consumer electronics and PCs continued to support Hon Hai’s revenue growth, said a company official, who requested not to be named.
“It indicates that [demand in] May and June is not as slack as it used to be,” the official said.
In the second quarter, Hon Hai’s revenues increased 23.2 percent to NT$633 billion, compared with NT$514.53 billion during the same period last year, according to the company’s statistics.
That reinforced Hon Hai chairman Terry Gou’s (郭台銘) confidence that the company’s revenues would grow at least 15 percent year-on-year over a five-year period to 2016. Smart TVs and smartphones would be two of the primary growth drivers, Gou said at the time. Hon Hai was the first in the world to manufacture Google TVs, he added.
“This year, the growth will be even greater than that,” Gou told shareholders early last month.
On a quarterly basis, second quarter revenues expanded 14.42 percent from NT$554.01 billion in the first quarter.
Gou expected the company’s revenues to grow further in the second half after completing the relocation of a factory to a new site in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, from Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, as well as an improving yield rate.
Hon Hai’s stock price fell 4.37 percent to NT$98.5 in the second quarter, while the benchmark TAIEX edged lower by 0.35 percent. Hon Hai shares were unchanged at NT$97.7 on Friday.
