‘Supersmart’ power meter showcased at technology fair

Staff writer, with CNA

Taiwan-based HomeScenario Inc (佳景科技) yesterday introduced a prototype of its “supersmart” electricity meter that can help homeowners monitor their power consumption.

The meter — launched at the Broadband Taiwan 2010 technology fair — is equipped with sensors that can detect total power consumption and relay the data to homeowners via their cellphone or personal computer, HomeScenario said.

The company said the meter can also be used to monitor electricity use patterns and individual home appliances’ power consumption. It can also automatically control lighting, air-conditioning, audio-video equipment and door security.

HomeScenario is one of 16 Taiwanese and foreign high-tech developers showing their products in the exhibition, which began on Monday and runs through tomorrow, the organizers said.

The exhibition also features wireless technology, telecoms components and equipment.
