Notebook contract maker Pegatron Corp (和碩聯合) yesterday said its board had approved a plan to acquire 100 percent of Ri-Teng Computer’s (日騰電腦配件) shareholdings from its parent, RIH LI International Ltd (Samoa), for not more than US$220 million.
China-based Ri-Teng Computer supplies metallic mechanical components to major brand companies for use in products such as notebooks, tablet PCs, e-readers, desktop computers and monitors.
The investment is an important step in Pegatron’s efforts to vertically integrate its operations and should help enhance its production scale and capability to manufacture mechanical parts, as well as strengthen its customer base and after-sale services, the company said in a statement.
Pegatron is a manufacturing spinoff of Asustek Computer Inc (華碩), a leading Taiwanese notebook brand and netbook pioneer.
Separately, Pegatron denied in a stock exchange fililng a report by the Chinese-language Economic Daily News on Tuesday that it would be the contract maker for Apple’s digital media receiver iTV.
Taiwan Transport and Storage Corp (TTS, 台灣通運倉儲) yesterday unveiled its first electric tractor unit — manufactured by Volvo Trucks — in a ceremony in Taipei, and said the unit would soon be used to transport cement produced by Taiwan Cement Corp (TCC, 台灣水泥).
