With the Shanghai Expo in full swing, a recent MasterCard survey found that more than half of Taiwanese travelers said they found it difficult to gather sufficient information about the city, while 35 percent said they would use their mobile phones to obtain travel information.
The survey, which polled more than 1,000 travelers from Taiwan and other countries this month who have been to Shanghai or are planning to visit, said that nearly 50 percent of respondents were concerned about the availability of currency exchange offices, ATMs and credit card services while visiting Shanghai.
In light of this, MasterCard partnered with Apple Apps and Android Market to launch a digital platform offering services such as an ATM locator, a guide to the Shanghai Expo and recommended restaurants, the company said in a statement yesterday.
“The ATM locator helps users locate the nearest ATMs in Shanghai and the expo area,” the statement said.
“Some 85 percent of respondents who were interested in visiting the Shanghai Expo said sightseeing was a strong attraction, followed by 62 percent who selected dining experiences,” the report said.
The survey showed that 61 percent of the Taiwanese respondents were interested in the Shanghai Museum, followed by 57 percent who were interested in the Bund and 57 percent interested in the Oriental Pearl TV Tower.
MasterCard said it aimed to provide applications and services that make life easier for MasterCard cardholders and consumers in general.
