“The development of WiMAX operators could be a headache for the government, which strongly promotes the development of the technology,” said an industry insider, who requested not to be named.
WiMAX operators could face challenges ahead as an increasing number of telecoms equipment makers and handset manufacturers, including Nokia, abandon WiMAX and embrace long-term-evolution (LTE) technology, he said.
The development of global LTE technology is making gradual progress as reflected in the commercial launch of LTE services by DoCoMo, Japan’s biggest mobile operator, by the end of this year, he said.
