TAIEX closes down 0.01%

Share prices edged down 1.33 points, or 0.01 percent, to close at 7,748.33 yesterday.

The local bourse opened at the day’s high of 7,773.52 and dropped to a low of 7,726.09 before rebounding to close little changed from the previous day.

Five of the eight major stock categories gained ground, with paper and pulp issues moving up the most at 0.49 percent.

Turnover totaled NT$77.04 billion (US$2.42 billion). Foreign investors and Chinese qualified domestic institutional investors were net buyers of NT$2.54 billion in shares.

Losers outnumbered gainers 1,580 to 1,047, with 371 remaining unchanged.

Chunghwa inks satellite lease

Chunghwa Telecom Co (中華電信), the nation’s largest telecom operator, said it had signed a NT$6 billion lease of the ST-2 satellite owned by ST-2 Satellite Venture Pte, its venture with Singapore Telecommunications Ltd.

The lease started yesterday and runs until March 12, 2026, it said in an exchange filing.

CPC maintains plants

State-run CPC Corp, Taiwan (CPC, 台灣中油) said it had shut a crude processing plant and a fuel oil unit in its Kaohsiung refinery on Monday for scheduled maintenance works.

The No. 6 crude distillation unit, which is able to process 100,000 barrels a day, will be closed for about 20 days, CPC vice president Lin Maw-wen (林茂文) said by telephone yesterday.

Closure of the No. 2 residue desulfurization unit, which has a daily capacity of 30,000 barrels, will last 40 days, he said.

HK firm offers TDR

Hong Kong-listed Global Sweeteners Holdings Ltd (大成糖業控股) yesterday said it had started its offer of NT$100 million Taiwan depositary receipts (TDR), with an initial price range of NT$14.50-NT$17.50 each.

Each TDR will represent two shares and will be backed by 100 million new shares and 100 million existing shares now held by a unit of Global Bio-chem Technology Group Co (大成生化科技集團), the company said.

Asustek plans cash dividends

Asustek Computer Inc (華碩電腦), maker of the low-cost Eee PC notebooks, plans to pay a cash dividend for last year of NT$2.10 per share, the Taipei-based company said in an exchange filing yesterday.

Fubon to bid for Tianmu land

Fubon Life Insurance Co (富邦人壽) said yesterday it planned to bid for a property in Taipei, its parent Fubon Financial Holding Co (富邦金控) said in an exchange filing.

The company said it would join the auction of a 1,715 ping (5,670m²) plot of land on Tianmu E Road owned by the charity group Evangelize China Fellowship on Wednesday.

The owner of the land has set the floor price at NT$4.97 billion, or NT$2.9 million per ping.

Fubon didn’t provide details of the planned purchase.

Powerchip books share gains

Powerchip Semiconductor Corp (力晶半導體) booked a gain of NT$232 million from selling NT$306 million of Neo Solar Power Corp (新日光能源) shares, the company said in an exchange filing yesterday.

Powerchip’s stake in the solar-energy company dropped to 1 percent after the sale, the statement said.

New Taiwan dollar advances

The New Taiwan dollar gained ground against the US dollar on the Taipei Foreign Exchange yesterday, edging up NT$0.007 to close at NT$31.84. Turnover was US$754 million.
