A total of 240 Taiwanese companies are participating in CeBIT 2010, the world’s biggest computer expo, in Hanover, Germany.
Taiwanese manufacturers such as Asustek Computer Inc (華碩電腦) and Micro-Star International Corp Ltd (MSI, 微星科技) are showing their latest products, including netbooks, touch-screen LCD monitors and e-book readers.
Chang Cheng-fen (張正芬), director of the Taiwan Trade Center in Dusseldorf, said CeBIT was an important platform in which Taiwanese firms could make inroads into the European and African markets.
Although CeBIT attendance has been shrinking in recent years, it is expected to continue to hold on to its leading status in the global digital industry for the next few years, Chang said.
Statistics compiled by the organizer showed that 4,150 exhibitors from around the world are taking part in this year’s trade show, nearly half of that in 2001, when more than 8,000 exhibitors attended.
Chiu Yi-che (邱一徹), a Taiwanese economic affairs official based in Germany, said that many participating Taiwanese firms had reported brisk orders at the exhibition and expressed satisfaction with the results.
To promote Taiwan’s high-tech brand image, the Taiwan External Trade Development Council has set up a product image area at this year’s exhibition, displaying 133 premium high-tech products and inventions that have won the iF design award.
