With the price of global crude oil staying above US$80 a barrel thanks to the weak US dollar and signs of a pick-up in the world economy, the nation’s two oil refiners yesterday announced price increases for domestic gasoline and diesel, effective today.
Both CPC Corp, Taiwan (CPC, 台灣中油) and Formosa Petrochemical Corp (台塑石化) said they would increase gasoline prices by NT$0.9 a liter and diesel prices by NT$0.4 a liter, company statements said.
Under the price adjustments, both 95 and 98-octane unleaded gasoline prices move above NT$30 a barrel.
Consumers living in areas that were hit severely by Typhoon Morakot will continue to enjoy discounts of NT$2.5 per liter for gas and NT$1.5 per liter for diesel.
