Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC, 台積電), Hon Hai Precision Industry Co (鴻海精密) and MediaTek Inc (聯發科) were the three most reputable enterprises in the nation this year, Chinese-language CommonWealth magazine said yesterday.
Formosa Plastics Group (台塑集團), Acer Inc (宏碁), Delta Electronics Inc (台達電子) and Quanta Computer Inc (廣達電腦) were new entries on the magazine’s top 10 list.
Hon Hai rose from last year’s No. 4 spot, while MediaTek dropped from last year’s No. 2 position, CommonWealth said.
HTC Corp (宏達電) was ranked in sixth place, down from No. 3 last year, while Uni-President Enterprises Corp (統一企業) remained in seventh place.
President Chain Store Corp (統一超商) slipped from eighth place to 10th place.
Among 23 sectors the magazine ranked, Quanta replaced Hon Hai as the most reputable company in the PC industry, while Fubon Financial Holding Co (富邦金控) overtook Cathay Financial Holding Co (國泰金控) as the most respected banking and insurance service provider this year.
“Quanta has succeeded in transforming from its earlier role as an ODM [original design manufacturer] to a solution provider in the 3C industry [computer, communications and consumer electronics] like a fast-running turtle this year,” the magazine said in a statement.
The magazine attributed Fubon Financial’s top performance-oriented management team as the brains behind its recent success in weathering the financial downturn.
The magazine also ranked the nation’s top 10 most reputable entrepreneurs, seven of whom have remained on the list for the past 15 years.
The outstanding businesspeople include TSMC chairman Morris Chang (張忠謀), Acer founder Stan Shih (施振榮) and MediaTek chairman Tsai Ming-kai (蔡明介).
Kenneth Yen (嚴凱泰), chairman of Yulon Group (裕隆集團), was the youngest entrepreneur to be named on the top 10 list.
