High-tech firm to invest in science park

The Central Taiwan Science Park (中部科學園區) Administration said it had received applications from two high-tech companies to build plants, the Central News Agency reported yesterday.

The report said Hon Technologies Inc (鴻勁科技), which specializes in producing automatic testing handler for the semiconductor industry, would invest NT$125 million (US$3.83 million) in the manufacturing and sale of wafer surface inspection machines.

The Taichung County-based company will integrate technologies such as automation control, visual image processing and precision machine design to enhance the automation capabilities of semiconductor packaging and testing processes, the report said.

Another company known as Weturn (華楷) would also invest NT$20 million in building a plant at the Central Taiwan Science Park. The company, a local Internet telephone service provider and a voice-over Internet protocol service provider, will focus on the manufacturing and sales of wireless sensor modules, diagnostic modules for power consumption devices and clean energy management systems, the report said.

The park administration said Weturn’s products are mainly wireless control moduless and management system, which could be combined with ordinary lampposts, or integrated with light-emitting diode lampposts into a single unit to achieve energy conservation and brightness control.
