Taiwan¡¦s information technology (IT) manufacturing sector will perform better than its counterparts in the rest of the world in the second half of the year, an economic think tank and market watcher said yesterday.
The IT sector is expected to gain more momentum in the latter half of this year under a 3F mode ¡X fantastic, fast and fit ¡X and grow at a faster pace than the global sector, said Yang Sheng-fan (·¨³Ó¦|), deputy director of Topology Research Institute (TRI).
Yang said 3F will become a trend for global IT manufacturers, and Taiwanese manufacturers are expected to ride that wave and increase output as export soars.
Under the ¡§fantastic¡¨ trend, products with attractive features that integrate entertainment and style, such as notebook PCs featuring Blu-ray and CD-ROM drives, will enjoy continued growth, he said.
The ¡§fast¡¨ aspect will apply to products such as cutting edge 3.5G cellphones and WLAN-related items and facilities ¡X all of which can benefit from high-speed Internet connections and will drive growth, Yang said.
The new budget-priced IT products that are lightweight, highly efficient and come with innovative functions that were previously available only in expensive products will be classified as ¡§fit¡¨ products, Yang said.
¡§Taiwan¡¦s IT makers could maintain their edge among global competitors if they follow these three trends,¡¨ he said.
