The number of Taiwanese businesses listed in the top 1,000 enterprises in Greater China region based on their market values rose from 172 in 2006 to 182 last year, while the number of businesses from Hong Kong and China dropped from 300 and 528 in 2006 to 298 and 520 respectively last year, the Chinese-language weekly Business Today (今周刊) reported yesterday.
However, as the growth momentum of Taiwanese businesses was not as strong as businesses in China because of China’s larger population, only two Taiwanese businesses are listed in the top 35.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC, 台積電), the world’s largest contract chipmaker, slid from No. 10 last year to No. 17 this year.
Hon Hai Precision Industry Co (鴻海精密), the world’s largest electronics component maker, slid from No. 20 last year to No. 25 this year.
