Computex, the world's second-largest computer trade show is expected to attract about 1,500 electronic companies in June, up 13 percent from last year, the event's organizers said yesterday.
Last year, 1,333 firms participated in the show, the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA, 外貿協會) said in a press release.
Companies including US chip giant Intel Corp and Taiwan's biggest electronics company, Hon Hai Precision Industry Co (鴻海精密), will showcase their latest products at the computer show, said TAITRA, a co-organizer of the computer fair, together with Taipei Computer Association (台北市電腦公會).
The expansion in exhibition space was the main driver behind the increase in the number of exhibitors, TAITRA said.
"Over the past years, the growth in number of exhibitors was quite slow because of limited exhibition space. This year, we can offer more space after the completion of the Nangang exhibition hall," a TAITRA official surnamed Wang said by telephone.
This year, the organizers will provide 4,500 booths, up 54 percent from last year, said Wang, who is in charge of the trade event.
With the expansion in scale, TAITRA said it expected the exhibitors to land bigger orders this year, compared with NT$15 billion (US$462 million) last year, as at least 35,000 overseas buyers were expected to visit the show. The computer fair attracted about 33,000 foreign buyers last year, TAITRA tallies showed.
Computex will run from June 3 to June 7 at Taipei World Trade Center's exhibition halls 1 and 3, the Taipei International Convention Center and Nangang hall.
